The York Region Leakage Reduction Program was an eight year water loss reduction project, awarded to Veritec, a Miya Group Company, in August of 1998. It involved designing and implementing DMAs in all nine York Area Municipalities within the Region. This covers a total of 2500 km of water mains. Veritec was also responsible for the step testing, leak locating, pinpointing, leakage repair and post repair profiling to confirm savings.
A total of 65 temporary DMAs were set up and flow profiled. They were maintained three times each. The project also included the design, construction and commissioning of 10 flow modulated areas (FMA) using the Technolog Modulo advanced PRV controller. These are the first FMAs ever designed and constructed in North America. This project was, and still is, the largest contracted leakage reduction program in Canada.
