In June 2007, Veritec, a Miya Group Company, was awarded the Water Loss Study for the City of Saskatoon. The project involved the development and implementation of pilot district metered areas for the purpose of obtaining real field data to use and calibrate the Water Balance that was completed in house.
The project also involved the preparation of a detailed component analysis, validation of the water balance, preparation of a best practice document associated with water loss control and the development of a long term water loss reduction strategy.
The water balance completed by City staff showed an ILI of 4.36 for 2006. Our field implementation of the temporary DMAs yielded excellent results and helped to calibrate the water balance. Currently, the long-term plan is being finalized and will include active leakage control programs as well as apparent loss control programs
