Field Monitoring Program

In 1988 Veritec, a Miya Group Company, was asked by the City of Toronto to develop a field monitoring program to assess the current demands on the existing Scott Street Sewer Pumping Station. The pumping station had been operating at near capacity for several years.

With the construction of the Air Canada Centre, within the drainage area, the City suspected that the pumping station's capacity would be surpassed. Veritec completed a detailed water and sewer flow study within the drainage area. The purpose was to determine if the problem was due to capacity or due to excessive infiltration and inflow.

The drainage area was established and segregated in order to monitor the total potable water supplied to, and total sanitary sewer collected from, the area. The area was further broken down into four discrete sub-drainage basins for a more detailed analysis.

The project revealed that the southern part of the drainage area did suffer from substantial infiltration issues. One unmapped connection from outside the drainage was also discovered and excessive lake water discharge from one ICI connection was established.
