  • From the 24th to 26th of October, the 32nd Caribbean Water and Wastewater Association Conference was held in Guyana, the most relevant water event in the Caribbean region.
The conference had the presence of the Caribbean Ministers with responsibility for Water and Wastewater as well as senior representatives for the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB).

During the conference days, MIYA had the presence of Stuart Hamilton (Vice-President NRW Growth) José Carazo (Chief Growth Officer) and Alvaro Ramalho (Caribbean Country Manager) and and Katherine Paleracio (Project Manager Jamaica) where they held different meetings with the Ministers present as well as with the Multilateral Banks, together with presentations made on our capabilities based on our experience in different projects.

A declaration (the "Declaration of Georgetown”) was signed by all the Ministers attending the conference with the following outcomes:
  • Caribbean water utilities commit to prioritizing the reduction of non-revenue water (NRW) and increase the level of wastewater treatment and to immediately implement NRW strategies as tools to measure water utility efficiency and combat climate change
  • The Inter-American Development Bank and the Caribbean Development Bank stand ready to support water utilities to prepare plans to accelerate the reduction of NRW to an optimal level of losses and to increase the wastewater treatment coverage in seven years
  • There is potential for Caribbean water utilities to access climate financing for mitigating greenhouse gas emissions through NRW reduction and wastewater treatment projects

At MIYA, we possess all the skills and tools to perform, offer our services and continue supporting to Caribbean Water Utilities to accelerate the implementation of NRW projects and improve their efficiency, together with the corresponding reduction in greenhouse gases, so we are convinced of our capacity and expertise and we are available to provide immediate responses and solutions in the region in our firm commitment to collaborate with all stakeholders in reaching the goals of the Declaration.
